Oil on Canvas / The Scarlet-Headed Blackbird is a strikingly beautiful songbird found in the marshes of northeastern Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Brazil. Their song is described as loud, clear and melodic. The Blackbird is often thought to symbolize intelligence, wisdom and joy.
It measures 24 cm (9.5 inches) and it has a long, slender, very sharply pointed bill that is used as a hammer, like a woodpecker.
Scarlet-Headed Blackbirds live in pairs and are socially monogamous. They usually lay two eggs in an open-cup nest woven into supporting vegetation or in the crotch of a branch. The fledglings depend on the parents until they leave the nest.
